I got to Israel about a week ago and today a good friend had a house warming party. We got to see another friend that doesn’t hang out with the “old” group as much as he used to. He had an announcement… “We’re getting married. It’s over.” Silence. People digesting the last part — friendships, life, youth, income, free will — as he added “…the announcement is over, I meant.” Blessings all around. I added “maybe we’ll see you more now…” and got a round of applause.
On the way back to my parents’ I took another friend home who is finishing his MSc in physics and continuing towards his PhD. He reminded me that in Hebrew momentum is “te’na” and torque is “moment.” I pointed out that the pronunciation of me means “who?”, the pronunciation of who means “he” and the pronunciation of he means “she”. Confusing? Think twice before you take on learning Hebrew :)
