one way ticket

July 28, 2005 by Saar Drimer

I sold me car yesterday; just another step in the realization that I am leaving. I also have flight tickets, since I am not coming back to the US in the foreseeable future, they are one-way. I am flying to NYC with one airline, and to LON with another (I had to meet some constraints, that’s why it ended up like this.) Yes, you know what that means. I’ll have to go through TSA/check-in twice with my two suitcases and carry-on. Compounding the aggravation, the “one way alarm” will break and I’ll be guaranteed to be frisked and my luggage dismantled. Twice. Oh, well.

I wish I could explain to them that I am sure the terrorists already figured out that buying a one-way ticket is not the way to go (pun intended.) But, I’ll cringe through the experience and keep my mouth shut. Apparently, even mentioning anything “terroristy” in a 100 mile radius of an airport will get you in so much trouble you wished you stayed home.

Update 9 AUG:
My concerns did not materialize. I was not delayed/searched due to the one-way tickets. Somebody probably read my weblog and decided it was a bad policy to begin with. You all have to thank me now.

We all know that all of the nonsense in the terminals is meant to make the customers feel safe, though everyone knows ithas little chance of stopping a terrorist who makes any effort at planning. Most terrorists do. When was the last time you heard of a terrorist hi-jacking a plane on a whim? The people who do that are the “crazies” and they are just as happy to go to the mall with their handgun and shoot indiscriminately. Can you wait for the first mall bombings? And you thought x-mas shopping was a pain now…

    Phil,
How irresponsible of you to give terrorists new ideas!
